ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION:
The Down Syndrome Association of Polk County, Inc., is organized and operated exclusively for educational, scientific, and charitable purposes within the meaning of 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and shall include: (a.) Providing information to individuals with Down Syndrome, their family members, and physicians; (b.) Fostering exchange of information about the diagnosis and treatment of Down Syndrome between patients, educational institutions, and the general public; (c.) Providing the means for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families to share experiences and to support one another in seeking ways to improve their medical care and general well-being; (d.) Raising funds to insure the above stated items and purposes of Down Syndrome Association of Polk County, Inc., are available to persons with Down Syndrome.We are here to support our families with loved ones with Down Syndrome.
Most of our meetings will be held the 3rd Saturday of each month. They are held at the First Presbyterian Church Girl Scout house, 6th. St. N.W., Winter Haven, FL. Visit the EVENTS page for scheduled meetings and events.
During group meetings we intend to have professional speakers talk with us, have different organizations give us information to resources that we may not know about, and obviously create an atmosphere where all families feel welcomed and apart of something great! We look forward to meeting new families, and hope you will pass this information on to other family members or friends you think might be interested in attending… Our goal is to create an atmosphere where we can share ideas, information, and similar experiences through our children.

ABOUT OUR FOUNDER:
Hello, my name is Karyn Spencer. I am a parent of a child with Down syndrome. My husband and I have a great love for children with special needs. Over three years ago, several families were interested in starting a support group here in Polk County. So, with the support from the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida, our group was born.
